And Fritz Wieninger has been conscientiously fulfilling this mandate for many years. Here, a quality-oriented top winery has developed out of a traditional wine tavern business. For some years now, Wieninger has been processing grapes from both sides of the Danube river. With the famous and best sites on Vienna’s Nussberg, the dynamic winemaker has excellent grape material at his disposal, and he knows how to translate this into an extensive range of top wines. In Austria, Wieninger is famous for his barrique-aged Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs from the top series “Grand Select”, his cassis-spicy Bordeaux blend (Cabernet/Merlot) “Danubis Grand Select” deserves attention as well. A particular speciality is the traditional Wiener Gemischter Satz. For this authentic terroir wine, the vines of different varieties are mixed in the vineyard and contribute their specific characteristics. Since the 2013 vintage, it has also been ennobled with the DAC rating. The export-oriented winery is the only Viennese winery to have found Austria-wide acceptance in the top gastronomy scene. Wieninger has long been the clear number one in the metropolis when it comes to quality wine, 40 percent of the production is exported to 31 countries on three continents. The share in the Viennese gastronomy has also strongly increased in the past years. In order to make Vienna’s top wine even more popular, the vintner has joined forces with the Christ, Edlmoser, Cobenzl, Mayer am Pfarrplatz as well as Fuhrgassl-Huber wineries to form the “WienWein” group.
