destinations / SUMMER HOTSPOTS Small, luxurious and laid-back at the same time: the adults-only boutique hotel Little Arches. BEST OF MILOS THE BEACHES SARAKINIKO The iconic white cliffs and rock formations attract visitors from all over the world. If you want to explore and enjoy the beach by yourself, plan to get here in the early morning before the masses arrive. PAPAFRAGAS One of the most impressive spots on the island is this beach with its idyllic cove. It is surrounded by natural caves that are perfect for a spot of exploring. The water changes colour depending on the weather. TSIGRADO It may require a bit of effort to reach this secluded spot on the southern coast of the island, but the result is more than worth it. Bonus: due to the rocky path, there are very few families with children here. A beacon of colour. The woodwork of the fishermen’s cottages along the shore is traditionally painted with left-over paint from the boats. IN THE KNOW GETTING THERE You can fly to Milos via Athens or take one of the regular ferry services. RENT A CAR If you plan to explore the remoter parts of the island, it’s a good idea to hire a car for complete flexibility. TOWN AND COUNTRY Plaka, the hilltop capital of Milos, is definitely worth visiting. Spend some happy hours exploring the picturesque town with its warren of crooked little lanes. The hilltop fortress Kastro is one of the best places to admire the stunning sunset. APHRODITE’S BIRTHPLACE One of the most famous statues of antiquity, the Venus of Milo, was discovered on the island in 1820. The original is in the Louvre in Paris, but there’s a replica in the local museum. Ventus di Milo STAYING WHITE PEBBLE SUITES The ultra-stylish, modern boutique hotel on the seafront in the quaint fishing village of Pollonia has fabulous suites, soothing wellness treatments, an excellent and very helpful concierge service, delicious cuisine (including room service) and a tempting cocktail bar on the beach. Doubles from approx. £173 per night. whitepebblesuites.com VENTUS DI MILO The luxurious rooms and suites – for up to four people – at this boutique hotel on the island of the goddess Aphrodite offer deluxe comfort in a stunning location. With only six individually furnished suites (each with its own hot tub) this is the perfect spot for moments of relaxation and complete privacy. Doubles from approx. £295 per night. ventusdimilo.com DINING MEDUSA RESTAURANT Located on the beach, this lovely restaurant serves traditional Greek delicacies with a modern twist, which you enjoy as you relish the salty sea air and listen to the waves lapping on the sand. We recommend the grilled octopus and sardines, both served with capers, a popular ingredient on Milos. medusamilos.gr White Coast Pool Suites WHITE COAST POOL SUITES Built on a slice of waterfront heaven, the White Coast Pool Suites is one of the most exclusive resorts on Milos. Despite its central location, this hideaway feels secluded and private. Each of the 30 suites has a view over the Aegean Sea and its own infinity pool. The shoreline, just steps away from the suites, resembles the otherworldly rock formations of Sarakiniko. Doubles from approx. £295 per night. whitecoast.gr Klēa olive oil is renowned for its excellent quality – and its attractive packaging. nomeefoods.gr Inset: Medusa Restaurant jul-sep 2022 falstaff 57
